Our story

From microalgae
to your daily routine.

Aligma makes organic superfoods and natural products rooted in one of the oldest organisms on earth. Here's how we do it and why it matters.

Aligma, founded on the belief that the best ingredients come from nature at its most efficient.

A conviction
that algae changes things.

Aligma was founded on a simple but radical idea: that microalgae, one of the planet's oldest and most productive organisms, deserved a far bigger role in human health, nutrition, and sustainability.

What started as deep curiosity about how the natural world could do more became a company with a clear mission: to turn the extraordinary potential of microalgae into products that are clean, honest, and genuinely useful.

"We're building a future where natural, nutrient-dense and sustainable products aren't a luxury. They're the norm."

Our R&D team is based in Singapore, where we work continuously to improve every step of the chain from cultivation and harvest to formulation and quality control.

22–44t Protein per hectare per year
10× Faster growth than traditional crops
1.3 kg CO₂ absorbed per kg of biomass
70% Protein content in some strains

From cultivation to product:
how we grow our microalgae.

Everything begins in a fully closed cultivation system, isolated from the outside world, monitored continuously, and designed to produce algae that are consistently pure and traceable from batch to end product.

01
Cultivation

Algae are grown in fully closed systems using only light, water, and CO₂. No pesticides, no artificial fertilisers, no soil required. Temperature, pH, nutrients, and CO₂ input are monitored and adjusted continuously.

02
Strain selection

Not every microalga is the same. We select specific strains for each product. Some protein density, others for astaxanthin, DHA, or phycocyanin. The right strain under the right conditions delivers results no other crop can match.

03
Harvest

Once the culture reaches the right density and composition, we harvest and dry it into a fine powder, or further process it depending on the application. Nothing is added and nothing is wasted.

04
Formulation

Our biologists, formulators, and quality team work together to develop each product. Each product is tested on efficacy, stability, and consumer experience before it leaves the facility.

05
Quality control

Every batch is tested for purity, active ingredient concentration, and the absence of heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contamination. Only batches that meet all specifications proceed. Fully traceable from consumer to cultivation batch.

06
R&D

Our Singapore R&D team continuously explores new strains, optimises growth conditions, and refines extraction techniques. Microalgae science is still developing fast. We intend to stay at the front of it.

An organism that
outperforms everything.

Microalgae can produce 22 to 44 tonnes of protein per hectare per year, compared to roughly 1.2 tonnes for soy. They grow up to ten times faster than traditional crops, absorb 1.3 kg of CO₂ for every kilogram of biomass produced, and require no pesticides, no fertile land, and no seasonal conditions.

And yet most people have been consuming algae-derived ingredients for decades without knowing it. Think margarine, baby formula, fish oil supplements, and food colouring. We are just making that origin visible and making it better.

Efficiency
No land. No seasons.

Grows in closed systems anywhere in the world, year-round and without pesticides or fertilisers.

Nutrition
Naturally dense.

Up to 70% protein, rich in omega-3s, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds.

Sustainability
Net positive.

CO₂ absorption, water recycling, and zero pesticide runoff. Algae is among the cleanest food sources on earth.

Purity
Traceable to batch.

Every product is fully traceable from end consumer to cultivation batch, tested at every step.

For us, microalgae cultivation isn't just a commercial activity. It's a conviction that the solutions for healthy nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and cleaner living come partly from the ocean, in a form you can barely see.
